The Trustees and staff of The Rothschild Archive are greatly saddened to learn of the passing of Victor Gray, former Director of The Rothschild Trust.
‘Vic’ to his many friends and colleagues was a magnificent figure in the archive world. He made a somewhat unexpected move from county archives to the private sector in 1993 when he was invited to establish a corporate records and archives service at N M Rothschild & Sons Limited, and later became the founding Director of The Rothschild Archive Trust. His achievements in his chosen profession are ground-breaking and enduring and Archivists throughout the UK owe much to him.
Vic was immensely proud of everything he achieved at The Rothschild Archive: research projects, public exhibitions, founding membership of the European Association of Banking History, rescuer of looted archives and so much more. All who met and worked with him were struck by his courtesy, charm, passion, and his unfailing support and encouragement.
We are devastated to have lost a beloved friend and send our sympathies to his family.
